Criteria For Being Accepted and Remaining on Housing Register
Procedure for applying for Council Accommodation
- Contact Customer Services 0n 01665 510505 or our area offices in Alnwick, Amble or Rothbury for a Council Housing Application Form.
- Completed application forms should be returned to the Housing Services Division or our area offices at Amble or Rothbury.
- Upon receipt of your application for housing the Housing Services Division will assess it and either accept or reject it depending upon whether or not you qualify under the authorities policy which is summarised below.
Qualifying Persons
Persons aged 16 or over may apply - tenancies entered into with person/s between the age of 16 and 18 will be encouraged to sustain any tenancy through a support agency.
The following are not qualifying persons.
- Persons who have previously lived in an Alnwick District Council property during a time when there was nuisance to neighbours or when the property was damaged and (in either case) the tenancy came to an end after a Notice of Seeking Possession had been served on nuisance/damage grounds.
- Persons who have previously been the tenant (whether jointly with another person or not) of an Alnwick District Council, other Local Authority or Registered Social Landlord property which ended and any monies over £250.00 remained owing under that tenancy agreement whether rent arrears or not and whether that sum has been written off or not. An applicant owing less than £250.00 who accepted onto the housing register will be expected to enter into an agreement to clear the amount owing. The spouse/person living with such a person as a male or female companion is also included in this.
