Household waste and recycling.
Alnwick District Council is responsible for the collection of household waste.
How do we collect domestic waste?
Most residents in the Alnwick District have two wheeled bins – popularly known as wheelie bins– in which to deposit their refuse. One wheeled bin is for recycling and the other for the materials that cannot be recycled.
We also make special arrangements for collecting householders’ bulky items, including refrigerators and freezers.
How often do we collect rubbish?
There are weekly collections from all residents’ homes. Residents with two bins have their recyclable materials colleted one week and their other waste collected on the following week.
The collection usually takes place on the same day of each week but the schedule is altered, from time to time, because of Bank Holidays.
If collection arrangements are altered, residents are kept informed by leaflets that are left at their homes, or through notices in the local Press.
Residents with wheelie bins are asked to leave them at the edge of their property, next to the main road, on the day of collection.
They will be emptied, provided that they are not over filled or too heavy. Your bin will then be left for you, at the edge of your property, where you put it.
