Household Refuse collection
Alnwick District Council collects from approximately 15,200 domestic properties each week.
This is an alternate weekly collection with residents putting their recycling materials out one week and their other waste materials out in the following week.
Residents are required to place their 240 litre wheeled bins at the edge of their property by 07:30 on their collection day so that the refuse crew can gain access to it.
How can you obtain a wheelie bin?
If you have moved into a newly built property, you will need to purchase your own green wheelie bin. If you relocate to an older dwelling that does not have a green wheelie bin, then you will also be responsible for obtaining one. You are entitled to your first blue recycling bin free of charge.
You can buy a green bin from us at a cost of £39, inclusive of VAT and delivery.
Any bins that have been stolen or damaged must be purchased from us at a charge of £39. Bins damaged while being emptied by our refuse crew will be replaced free of charge.
Assistance with the bin
Assistance is available for residents who are unable to put out their wheelie bin at their designated collection point for one reason or another.
Further details can be obtained by telephoning Customer Services on 01665 510505
Bin odours and pollution
Regular washing of the bin will help to keep it clean but care is needed to ensure that all of the washings are emptied out of the bin.
Anything that is likely to be offensive should be wrapped in newspaper first and then wrapped tightly in a polythene bag before being placed in the bin.
Fridges & Freezers Collection
Any fridges or freezers for disposal are collected free of charge. To make arrangements for collection please complete the application form above (Extra Domestic Refuse Collection) or contact (01665) 510505.
All collections are taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on the Lionheart Enterprise Park in Alnwick. From here they are sent to recyclers who safely extract the CFC gases and dispose of them.
Extra Domestic Refuse Collection
The Council provides a collection service for certain items of household waste which will not fit in the wheeled bin, such as furniture. There is a charge of £12.00 for up to four items, with a 50% discount if you are in receipt of any of the benefits named on the application form.
This service is only for certain items such as carpets, beds, chairs etc. However, other items may be collected, although an hourly rate will be applicable. If you wish to apply for an extra collection please download, complete and return the attached form to us. Alternatively contact (01665) 510505 for further details.
